Weird Sing Things for the Day

30.3.07 The CDC does not have electronic fire alarms. Thererfore they have a 'Fire Bell' seen below. You have to turn the bell either way for one minute in order to accurately sound the alarm. It sounds like a church bell. And the faster you turn it, the quicker the bell sounds. There are two or three per building.

Night Safari

30.3.07 Tonight Lisa and Juli went to the Night Safari at the Singapore Zoological Garden. We took a Tram around the park. The Tram was nice because we were able to get off at the East Lounge and go on the Leopard trial. Besides being humid (what's new about that though), some of the animals were very excited to see us, like the fox bats opened their wings for us and smiled, and the male lions were growling and yelling. And the deers, which they were at least 9 different kinds were roaming around some areas of the ride. We saw elephants and HIPPOS, a male Asian rhino who is one of 800 or so left in the world. And two Malaysian tigers, and there are only 80 left in the world. Needless to say at the end of the tour, which was about 1.5 hours, ending around 2245, we ate at Bongo Burger, then taxied home!! What a day!

DISCLAIMER!!! AT THE NIGHT SAFARI PARK WE WERE NOT ALLOWED TO USE FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY BECAUSE IT SCARES/MAKES SOME ANIMALS MORE AGGRESSIVE!! PICTURES ARE A COMBINATION OF FAST ACTION AND NIGHT PHOTO!! SORRY FOR THE BLUR!

Ok, so Juli switched camera modes and accidentally used her flash. Surprise.

Red Civet. The Civet family is noted for their ability to produce sweet and floral smelly aromas from their anal glands. Many of these, for lack of a better word, secretions have been used at perfume.

HSBC TreeTop Walk!

He looks sweet and innocent - but don't show him your teeth!!!

25.3.07 We went for a TreeTop walk at the HongKong Shanghi Bank's site near MacRitchie Reservior. It was hot, humid, and Gus, my preceptor Amy's husband, who is with the Singapore Defense, was beating us on these trails. Apparently he is always a fast walker, according to Amy. Anyways after a hot walk and some cold drinks almost 4 hours later, we went to lunch at Gus' favorite Indian restaurant (Gietreh, sp?). Then on a 2 hour tour around Singapore: saw embassies, hotels, went into the Shangri La hotel which was gorgeous and had huge chandliers and an awesome buffet, houses that in the states would be $1-2 million, here are $5-10 million, with guards. Amazing!

touch-me-nots. Two of the stems are closed in this picture. All of the stems are closed in the picture below. These guys close their leaves when they are touched. We had fun playing with these!
